Nate Smith, Kinfolk, and Kurt Rosenwinkel at Jazz Standard

Monday January 6, 2014

Kurt Rosenwinkel and his group New Quartet will perform five nights at The Jazz Standard in the NoMad District of NYC.

The Jazz Standard is filling this week with an exciting line up of cutting-edge musicians.

Nate Smith brings his group Kinfolk to the popular NoMad venue for two sets on Tuesday.

Smith, an alumni of jazz great Betty Carter’s “Jazz Ahead” program, has drummed with a number of contemporary legends: Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Ravi Coltrane, and pop-singer Joe Jackson. The six-piece group is sure to play material from his series of albums “Workday: Waterbaby Music, Vol. 1-1.5.”

The band will play a set at 7:30 p.m. followed by another at 9:30 p.m. Tickets run $20 per set and can be purchased here.

The Jazz Standard keeps the music going with famed-guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel’s New Quartet playing Wednesday through Sunday.

Rosenwinkel has been making a name for himself as one of the forefront innovators of jazz guitar, blending deep groove with complex jazz melodies. His latest release “Star of Jupiter” featured the New Quartet lineup and was met with rave reviews. The group consists of Rosenwinkel on guitar, Aaron Parks on piano, Eric Revis on bass, and Kendrick Scott on drums. New Quartet will perform sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, through Sunday. On Friday and Saturday there will be a third set at 11:30 p.m.

The shows are $25 per set on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and $30 per set for Friday and Saturday shows. Tickets can be bought here.

A great week for jazz fans in the NoMad District!
