Embark NYC Wins MTA App Contest and Uses Our Building in Their Video!
Monday February 6, 2012
It was announced last week that Embark NYC has won the MTA’s competition for the best smartphone app for it’s riders. We were delighted to find out that such an app existed, and we were even more delighted when we saw our very own Townsend Building used in the opening shots of their promo video.
The video shows all of the apps functionality, while showcasing this neighborhood of NoMad as well as many others throughout the city. David Hodge and Ian Leighton of Embark worked with two others to create the app that can help NYC subway riders plan trips, see schedules for their route, and use an interactive map of the subway system. The app will even work underground without cell signal!
The winner of the contest received $5,000, and the rights to keep their intellectual property for the software. MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota believes that the winners are really us, “It’s pretty clear who the real winners are: all of us—the riding public—the 8.5 million people who use our system every single day and now have more tools to make those trips easier and more rewarding.” Check out Emark NYC’s really cool video below.View all Headlines
