The NYT has reported that their game Numberplay recently featured a set of puzzles based on an upcoming activity that will be one of the lead-up events to the grand opening of the Museum of Mathematics right here in NoMad. The museum that we reported just won the right to redesign the exterior of their building after a dispute with the Landmark Preservation Commition — keeping them on track for a fall 2012 opening.

Today’s announcement however concernes the unveiling of the museum’s first inaugural fundraising gala, which took place last night. The fundraiser was a serious event with single ticket pricing costing $1,000, taking place at The Tribeca Rooftop (2 Debrosses Street between Hudson and Greenwich). The event was hosted by New York Times crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz, and was billed as “an evening of interactive fun during which adults will compete in the first-ever MoMath Masters Tournament to solve math puzzles and challenges.”

Sounds like a hoot! When we get more info on the gala, as well as any other info on the Museum of Mathematics, we will be sure to report it right here on StreetBeat!
