New York is know for a lot of things,  culture, theater, and one of our favorites — food! Earlier in the week the prestigious James Beard Awards took place at Lincoln Center, honoring some of the country’s best restaurants. Not every category had New York-based restaurants nominated, but the city did still do pretty well, coming away with a strong group of winners.

One of the greats Danny Meyer, with a number of restaurants in NoMad within a stones throw of the Kew Offices, was a happy man last night, as his restaurants took the awards for Best Pastry Chef (Angela Pinkerton of Eleven Madison Park), Outstanding Restaurant (Eleven Madison Park), and Outstanding Wine Service (The Modern).  Another highlight for New York was Gabrielle Hamilton, the chef from the wonderful downtown restaurant Prune, finally won after three years in the nominating pool for Best Chef NYC.
