Shake Shack Coming To Philly

This news is not exactly neighborhood related, but since our last post was about a Philadelphia institution coming to New York, we thought it fitting that one of our favorite NY eateries is on its way to “the city of brotherly love.”

Shake Shack, the excellent burger chain by our neighbor Danny Meyer, is on the way to Philly. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a lease has been executed at 2000 Sansom St., the southwest corner of 20th and Sansom Streets, across from Village Whiskey.

A representative of Shake Shack promises inside and outside seating, and of course beer, wine and their famous custard shakes!

It’s set to open in the second half of 2012, and will be the latest location along side Meyer’s others in – Madison Square Park (the original Shack, founded in 2004), Upper West Side (2008), Citi Field (2009), Theater District (2010), Upper East Side (2010) and Battery Park City (2011), as well as its locations in Miami Beach (2010), Washington, D.C. (Dupont Circle and Nationals Park, both in 2011) and Saratoga Race Course, N.Y. (2010).

Also if you didn’t know, Shake Shack recently opened its first location overseas this spring in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a second opening mid-summer in Kuwait City! It’s exciting to see the influence of NoMad and Madison Park spreading across the globe!

It used to be “Trenton makes, the world takes.” – - now between this and Eataly it looks like “NoMad creates, the world takes.” I’ve heard rumblings about another big market changer coming into the area – - can’t wait to see what it is.
