The central jewel of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park, occupies six acres bordered by 23rd on the South, 26th Street on the North, Fifth Avenue on the West and Madison Avenue on the East. Originally opened in 1847, Madison Square Park has a rich history, and through the years has served as, among other things, a military parade ground and a train yard.

It provides a large green open space for the neigboorhood, providing sunlight, greenery, flowers, and fountains, affording a few minutes respite for those who “cut thorough” as they go about their day and giving extra light and airto the surrounding office buildings.
