Nike Runners Store Coming To Fifth Avenue
Monday October 10, 2011
A new concept store from Nike will soon be setting up shop just a few blocks down from our neighborhood of NoMad.
The maker of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment leased 14,000 square feet at 156 Fifth Ave. to open a Nike Running store. The specialty store caters to runners by offering services and promotions beyond just selling sneakers, clothes and accessories. For example, the stores offer running workshops and allow customers to try out new merchandise, according to a Nike web site. There are a least two such stores. A Nike spokesman confirmed the Fifth Avenue space has been leased for a new concept store.
It was unclear when the store will open or what the rent will be. The new shop will debut on a popular shopping strip in the Flatiron district that includes a Sephora, Gap and Ann Taylor. The space in the 14-story building on the corner of West 20th Street was formerly occupied by a Macy’s pop-up store.
The Nike Running store was represented by Cushman & Wakefield Inc. brokers Joanne Podell and Matthew Seigel, who declined to comment. Robert Haddad, an executive for the building’s landlord HRC Corp., declined to comment or give his title.
