Marc Cary Focus Trio at the Jazz Standard
Noted pianist Marc Cary brings his Focus Trio to the NoMad District tonight for two sets at Jazz Standard.
As a collaborator and sideman to numerous jazz greats (Roy Hargrove, Dizzy Gillespie, Shirley Horn, as well as Erykah Badu and Q-Tip), Cary has proven himself to be at the forefront of innovators in contemporary jazz and improvised piano. Earlier this year, Cary released For The Love of Abbey, a solo album comprised of both originals and covers influenced by his work with the late-great Abbey Lincoln. In addition to Cary on piano, the Focus Trio includes Rashaan Carter on bass and Sameer Gupta on drums.
The trio will perform new work from the highly-anticipated studio album, Four Directions (Motéma Music). These shows are just another example of how the NoMad District is at the leading edge of the city’s musical and cultural events.
The Marc Cary Focus Trio performs at 7:30 and 9:30 tonight. Tickets are $20 and are available at the door or in advance through JazzStandard.net.
