Backyard Game of the Year – Coming to Madison Park!

Clif Kid (makers of the Clif Bar), are a really cool brand that makes organic snacks for kids, and they have just announced finalists for their competition “Backyard Game of the Year.” The concept was to have kids compete for the best outdoor game, to encourage kids to get away from the TV and video games and start playing some active games again! The cool thing is that, these finalists will get to unveil their game on August 27th at, one our favorite NoMad destinations, Madison Square Park! The stakes are high too for this kids competition, with achance to win a $10,000 scholarship!

Another cool thing that kids from all around New York, including the Kew Management neighborhood of NoMad and Flatiron, are invited to attend the Playoffs with their parents to play these new versions of backyard games and they also get to meet meet Julie Foudy, a three-time US Olympic soccer medalist, mom and Official Team Captain of the Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs.

The five finalists for the competition are:
Alligator Tail by Sydney, age 11, Pace, Florida
Eagle’s Nest by Kiley, age 11, Meadville, Pennsylvania
Hoop Ball by Alex, age 9, Arlington, Texas
Nature to Nature by Joey, age 9, Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin
Sponge Ball Fill-Up by Sara, age 9, Plaistow, New Hampshire

The Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs will take place Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:00AM on the Farragut Lawn of Madison Square Park, NY (enter the park at 26th Street and Madison or Fifth Avenue). The Backyard Game of the Year will be selected by a panel comprised of Olympic medalist Julie Foudy, Health Magazine’s Food and Nutrition Director, Frances Largeman-Roth, and Children and Nature Network board member, Brother Yusuf Burgess.
