Art in the Neighborhood: Will Ryman’s Bird
Will Ryman’s Bird is now on display near Madison Square Park. This is the first art piece of its kind to be displayed at Flatiron Plaza.
The sculpture was first shown in Will Ryman’s exhibition at the Paul Kasmin Gallery last February. The temporary art installation in Flatiron Plaza is a result of a collaboration with the NYC Department of Transportation’s Urban Arts Program.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Ryman speaks about how excited he is to present his Bird outside of the “Chelsea white box.” He is enthusiastic to take his work into an unconventional location because he feels that many gallery shows are more about “gallery space than they are the art”
Check out the five-ton sculpture on your lunch break if you haven’t had a chance yet!
